 Horizontal dispersion of LineSource as a surround speaker:

The red line shows the extremely uniform and wide dispersion characteristics in the high notes of the LineSource. As a result this speaker is ideal for surround channels. Surround loudspeakers are often constructed as a dipole. Due to tweeters and Midranges which are emitted out of phase an diffuse sound quality can be generated. The VoicePoint LS200 generates A similarly broad (diffuse seeming) dispersion without the phase problem of a dipole.

An A 5.x installation mounted with high-quality speaker is preferable to an 11.x. The installation comes up with mixed types of speakers. Someone who enjoyed music and film in a homogeneous balanced 5.1 home theater, has usually no desire for more speakers. 5 line sources with same acoustic properties ensure the homogeneous sound quality.

With the introduction of BluRay also 7.x mixtures have ben established. Two more LineSources be installed in the rear area.

Three LineSources are mounted behind the acoustically transparent screen. Those are connected to the speaker terminals left, center, right of a home cinema amplifier. Recommended crossover frequency is 100 Hz.

SUR surround
The LS200 is also used for the surround channels. In the past there was the tendency to depict the sourrund speakers smaller than the front speakers, because the surround signal had only effects in a restricted frequency range. That had changed since the introduction of DTS. For homogeneous reproduction and realistic proportions appropiate sourund speakers should be used.

SUB Subwoofer
Why a "big" subwoofer? In smaller rooms, subwoofers with a large membrane a controlled bass playback.  precision down to the lowest octave and when it is time "popt", then it pops also.
